PCORI Defined

Authorized by the Affordable Care Act in 2010, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) was created as an independent, non-profit organization to help  patients, clinicians, purchasers, and policy makers make better informed health decisions. By supporting patient-centered research that compares the benefits and harms of various health interventions, PCORI focuses on outcomes that matter to people, advancing the quality of evidence about how to prevent, treat, and manage health conditions (both common and rare). Patient-centered research doesn’t just involve patients as subjects, but as integral members of the research team, involved every step along the way.

PCORI recently transitioned to three funding cycles per year with a two-stage process for each cycle. Stay tuned for deadlines for the Spring 2014 cycle. Words for Good® is experienced in preparing research applications to PCORI. Stacie was selected as a stakeholder reviewer for PCORI in summer 2013.
