One of the nation’s five largest philanthropic organizations, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), recently celebrated 40 years and announced approval of up to $425 million in available grant funds for 2013. Formed in 1972 after the death of Robert Wood Johnson II (former chairman of Johnson & Johnson), RWJF dedicates its funds exclusively to improving U.S. health and healthcare. In 2013 RWJF will focus its efforts on: helping people stay healthy; decreasing national healthcare costs; and increasing access to high-quality care through a diverse and abundant healthcare workforce. Previous work supported by RWJF helped to create the country’s 911 emergency system and the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency Act, among many other contributions.
