Nursing Workforce Diversity Program is Open

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) anticipates awarding 25 grants for its Nursing Workforce Diversity Program. Up to $500,000 per year for four years will be granted to support projects that build nursing education opportunities for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. The overall purpose is to increase access to a pool of high quality, culturally diverse nurse providers who reflect the communities they serve. Funds may be used to provide:

  • Student stipends or scholarships
  • Stipends for diploma or associate degree nurses to enter a bridge or degree completion program
  • Student scholarships or stipends for accelerated nursing degree programs
  • Pre-entry preparation
  • Advanced education preparation; and
  • Retention activities.

Individuals may not apply for these funds, but rather eligible applicants include accredited schools of nursing, nursing centers, academic health centers, state or local governments, and other appropriate private or public entities. Applications are due November 14, 2016.
