The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has opened both planning grant (PAR-16-298) and research grant (PAR-16-299) opportunities to test strategies that detect and intervene to reduce the risk of suicide behavior, suicide ideation, and non-suicidal self-harm by youth in contact with the juvenile justice system.
“Pilot Studies to Detect and Prevent Suicide Behavior, Ideation and Self-Harm in Youth in Contact with the Juvenile Justice System (R34)” will support work that sets the stage for future larger scale projects that evaluate the feasibility, tolerability, acceptability and safety of new approaches to improving outcomes and modifying behavior. Applicants may request up to $225,000 in direct costs per year, but the total three-year project period budget should not exceed $450,000. National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) anticipates making four awards in response to this funding opportunity announcement. Standard NIH R34 application due dates apply, with the first due date option being October 16, 2016. Letters of Intent are due 30 days prior to this date.
Detecting and Preventing Suicide Behavior, Ideation and Self-Harm in Youth in Contact with the Juvenile Justice System (R01) will support research that actually tests the effectiveness of detection and intervention strategies to lower the risk of suicide behavior, suicide ideation, and non-suicidal self-harm by youth in contact with the juvenile justice system. Applicants may request up to $500,000 in direct costs per year, with a project period limit of five years. NIMH anticipates funding four awards in response to this announcement. Standard NIH R01 application due dates apply, with the first due date option being October 5, 2016. Letters of Intent are due 30 days prior to this date.
