NIH Announces Funding for Mind and Body Interventions

The National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) has announced the availability of funding to support early phase clinical trials of mind and body approaches for certain high priority topics.

High priority topics include spinal manipulation, mobilization, massage, tai chi, qi gong, yoga, acupuncture, hypnosis, guided imagery, light therapy, breathing activity, progressive relaxation, medication, biofeedback, and mindfulness techniques. The opportunity is an R34 planning grant, which is a one-year grant that supports the early phases of a clinical trial including establishing a research team, developing data management and research oversight tools, defining recruitment strategies, finalizing protocols, and preparing operations and procedures manuals.

Applications are due by October 10, 2014.
