In applications for research grants submitted on or after January 25, 2015, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) will require the use of a new biosketch format. The new format, available on the SF 424 (R&R) Forms and Applications page, extends the page limit to five pages and is intended to emphasize researchers’ accomplishments rather than just their publications by asking researchers to describe up to five of their most significant contributions to science, along with the history underlying the research. In relation to each contribution, researchers can their list up to four peer-reviewed publications or non-publication research products such as audio or video products, patents, and educational aids/curricula. The enacted new requirements follow a one-year period of input from both Requests for Information and pilot Funding Opportunity Announcements that used the new format.
