More Time for Cancelled Policies
More Time for Cancelled Policies

Late last year, we gave you the 411 on cancellations of health insurance policies that don’t meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act and what the President did about it. At the time, the President gave folks who wanted to keep their existing policies a one-year pass from the requirements of the law – assuming, of course, that the insurance companies themselves wanted to continue offering the plan and that the State was okay with it.

Fast forward three months, and the President is now extending it to a three-year pass – allowing individuals to keep policies that don’t meet the standards in the law through 2017 without repercussion.

The impact of extending the transition policy is expected to be low, with an estimated 1.5 million individuals nationwide currently covered by these policies, but more than anything else, it helps the President keep his ill-advised promise of “If you like your plan, you can keep it.”
