The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is now soliciting applications for its Nurse Education, Practice, Quality, and Retention – Veteran’s Bachelor in Nursing (VBSN) Program. This initiative aims to develop HRSA’s strategic plan to improve the quality of medical treatment nationwide, and diversify the healthcare workforce by increasing the number of employment opportunities in nursing for veterans and those in the armed services. Programs that receive funding from this award should: (1) facilitate professional networks and training experiences for veterans, (2) provide a curriculum that is well-suited to the unique needs and abilities of those in the armed services, (3) devise strategies that assess existing competencies that may be eligible for credit, and (4) offer psychological and emotional support services designed to assist veteran’s in transition from military to civilian life. Nine (9) awards of $350,000 in maximum annual funding will be given to accredited schools of nursing for project periods of up to three years. The anticipated project start date will be September 1, 2013. All applications are due on June 7, 2013.
