HRSA Opens Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students Opportunity

The Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) has announced its Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) opportunity. This program promotes diversity among the health professions and nursing workforce by providing awards to eligible health professions and nursing schools for use in awarding scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have a demonstrated financial need and are enrolled full-time in health professions and nursing programs. HRSA anticipates making up to 99 grant awards of up to $650,000 per year for a four-year project period (average award likely to be $450,000 per year). Sixteen percent of SDS funding is designated for schools of nursing and 25 percent of funds are designated for graduate programs in behavioral and mental health practice. Applications are due January 25, 2016.
