Focus on Good: YMCA of Greater Indianapolis

Committed to strengthening spirits, minds, and bodies through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, the YMCA has served Central Indiana for more than 150 years. The YMCA not only provides families a healthy place to gather, but responds to critical needs in the community. Today, the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis includes 13 centers and serves over 185,000 people, providing more than $6 million in scholarships and programming in low-income communities. Its centers have helped revitalize neighborhoods while also encouraging Marion County residents to take their health more seriously. In 2012, the YMCA launched its “Top 10 by 2025 Coalition” which is dedicated to making Indianapolis one of the nation’s ten healthiest communities by 2025. (Indy currently ranks 43rd out of the country’s 50 largest metro areas.) With 82 community partners on board, the Coalition has pledged to increase physical activity, improve nutrition, decrease smoking, and improve the wellness environment among central Indiana residents.
