Here’s an astounding fact…someone in the United States is in need of blood every two seconds. However, less than 10 percent of the population who is eligible to donate blood actually does so.
That unfortunate reality is no different in my new home of Fort Mill, SC, where I recently had the privilege of donating in one of the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC)’s many mobile drives throughout the Carolinas. CBCC is the primary blood supplier to 27 regional hospitals, including those affiliated with the Carolinas Healthcare system. In addition to ongoing mobile drives throughout the region, CBCC has five donation locations (in Charlotte, Concord, Hickory, Greensboro and Gastonia) with hours ranging from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
No matter where you donate blood, you can be in an out in one hour or less from registration to your post-donation cookies. And the really cool part…your donation has the ability to help three patients! (The most common recipient of blood products are cancer patients.)
Don’t’ live in the Carolinas? You’re not off the hook! Find a blood donation center near you by visiting the American Red Cross or Googling your region’s local blood centers.
