The mandatory letter of intent (LOI) for the second round of CMS’ Health Care Innovation Challenge is due on June 28th at 3:00 pm EST. While non-binding, applicants are required to articulate their intervention, target population, estimated funding request, and a description of how their plan will reduce costs while improving the quality of care for Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP beneficiaries in outpatient settings. Designs should address at least one of the following four primary target categories: (1) reduce the cost of acute care: (2) enhance care for patients with specialized needs; (3) assist providers in the delivery of care, and (4) promote population health management. CMS has provided applicants with a variety of resources, including a series of informational webinars on topics covering an overview of the award and all four innovation categories (One & Two; Three & Four), Achieving Lower Costs Through Improvement, and Measuring Success and Developing an Operational Plan.
