Community Health Network Receives $100,000 grant to Provide Bereavement Support to Low-Income and Minority Youth

Community Home Health Services (CHHS), part of Community Health Network, has been selected to receive one of five $100,000 awards from Grief Reach, a partnership between the National Alliance for Grieving Children and the New York Life Foundation. In collaboration with the Indiana University School of Social Work (IUSSW), CHHS will provide year-round grief support and education to predominantly low-income and minority children in central Indiana through school-based and community-based support groups. Specifically, CHHS bereavement coordinators and IUSSW practicum students will facilitate a grief curriculum along with support groups for students throughout the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township in Indianapolis. Support groups will also be implemented at Community Health Network hospital sites for children who have a family member receiving hospice care from CHHS. Grief Reach reviewed more than 60 proposals and distributed 21 awards; however, only five of these awards are at the $100,000 level. Words for Good is honored to have worked alongside CHHS and Community Health Network in obtaining funding for this project which will serve nearly 16,000 disadvantaged youth in central Indiana.
