The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation re-released the funding opportunity announcement (FOA) for its Strong Start for Mothers and Newborns program on July 3, 2012, with a new deadline of August 9, 2012. The Strong Start initiative seeks proposals offering innovative ways to reduce early elective deliveries OR test the effectiveness of specific enhanced prenatal care approaches to reduce preterm births in women enrolled in Medicaid. Initially released with a June deadline, the original FOA was repealed due to overwhelming interest in the partnership and an onslaught of questions to CMS regarding the opportunity. Cooperative agreements will consist of a four-year period of performance – three years of service delivery and four years of data reporting. The anticipated award date is October 5, 2012.
