The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the availability of up to $280 million for state and local public health actions to prevent obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Funding will support population-wide or population-specific approaches to prevent obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
The opportunity is divided into two components – the first will support environmental and system approaches to promote health and the second will support health system interventions and community-clinical linkages.
State and large city (with a population of 900,000 or more) health departments are eligible to apply. CDC anticipates making up to 22 four-year awards of approximately $3 million each. Applications are due by July 22, 2014.
