National Institutes of Health (NIH) is accepting applications for its Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) program. AREA grants support small-scale research projects proposed by faculty members of eligible, domestic institutions, to expose undergraduate and/or graduate students to meritorious research projects, and to strengthen the research environment of the applicant institution. AREA awards are intended for scientists and institutions otherwise unlikely to participate in NIH research programs. The proposed Principal Investigator (PI) cannot be the PI of any other active NIH grant at the time of the AREA award. Direct costs are limited to $300,000 over the course of the three-year project period.
Standard applications are due June 25 or October 25, with AIDS-related research deadlines being September 7 and January 7.
