$ 1 Billion in Funding for Round Two of CMS’ Health Care Innovation Challenge

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced the second round of its Health Care Innovation Challenge. The second round is focused on creative payment and delivery models related to: (1) designs that rapidly reduce costs for Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP populations in outpatient settings; (2) methods to improve care for individuals with specialized needs, such as those with HIV, behavioral health issues, and children in foster care; (3) financial and clinical models for complex conditions in areas such as oncology, cardiology, and pediatrics; and (4) opportunities that link clinical care to preventative and population health. Applicants must include both payment and service models, and preference will be given to collaborative applications that have the capacity to affect a wide range of providers and demographics. Awards will range from $1-30 million for a three-year performance period beginning on April 1st, 2014. Non-binding letters of intent are due on June 28th and full applications are due on August 15th. Awards will be announced in January 2014.
